Alexandria, Virginia is such a charming town just minutes from Washington, D.C. I first visited in 2009 on my very first solo trip across the USA. I was using my favorite travel book, 1,000 Things To See Before You Die – USA Edition. There was a great entry about the town so I stayed for a few days taking in lots of historical tours and learning lots about the 18th and early 19th centuries. I loved walking the cobblestone streets and not having to have my car around to enjoy each of the sites. It’s a great spot for a solo visit, girls’ trip, or family vacation. Enjoy the slower pace and romanticism of the past.
